Analysis And Design Of Simply Supported Pre-stressed Precast-cast In-situ Concrete Composite Railway Bridges Comparison Of Ballasted And Slab Track Alternatives
Bridge is one of the most important components of railway line for development ofrntransportation. It is known that Addis Ababa light rail transit project constructionrnstarted two years ago. Also the construction of national railway project started. Inrnthese projects, the construction of bridges need highly skilled man power and highestrnconstruction cost.rnThe railway bridge commonly contains two types of tracks which are ballasted andrnslab track. There is a difference in construction cost of bridge between ballasted trackrncase and slab track case.rnThus, this study has attempted to analyze, design and compare both ballasted and slabrntrack type laying on the surface of bridge. This study mainly focuses on thernsuperstructure of bridge supporting track rails attached to the bridge to supportrntrains.rnThe intention of this thesis is therefore to compare the construction cost of railwayrnbridges with ballasted and slab track cases and to select the economical track typernlaying on the surface of railway bridge.rnFinally, from the overall analysis result of this thesis, the study conclude that slabrntrack is economical than ballasted track for span length greater than 15m. On thernother hand, ballasted track seems economical than slab track for span length less thanrn15m.
