Imaging Pattern Of Brain Metastasis Of All Patients With Known Primary Malignancies Presented To Radiology Department At Tikur Anbesa Specialized Hospital Addis Ababa University Addis Ababa Ethiopia From September 2018 Septem
Background: Brain metastasis is one of the leading causes of death in cancer patientsrndue to increasing the options of treatment for primary tumors and increasing life span.rnBrain metastases have different radiological manifestations which may mimic primaryrntumor and nonmalignant diseases. Therefore, it is important for the radiologist to bernfamiliar with the full spectrum of findings to facilitate correct diagnosis and this studyrnhas tried to look for the pattern of brain metastasis.rnObjective: This study aimed to assess the overall brain metastasis patterns.rnMethods: A retrospective cross sectional study of 51 patients was done fromrnSeptember 2018-September 2020. A structured questionnaire was used to collect datarnfor analysis.rnResults: Of the total 51 cases there were 12 primary sites and the majority cases camernfrom the following site in the descending orders breast (22),lungrn(11),bladder(4),GTD(3),RCC,STS and thyroid each(2) and colonic, endometrial carnmelanoma, nasal SCC and thymic ca each (1)rnCerebral hemisphere was the commonest site to be involved followed by cerebellumrnand brain stem.rnMost common pattern of metastasis was multiple nodular followed by solitary, rnhemorrhagic, cystic and cavitaryrnConclusion: cerebral hemisphere metastasis was the commonest brain parts withrnmultinodular pattern and ring enhancement with associated perilesional edema andrnpresence of diffusion restriction for more than half cases
