Parental involvement is believed to impact adolescents’ participation in risky sexualrnbehavior either positively or negatively. The objective of this study was to examine therncurrent parenting styles of the parents, exposure of adolescents towards risky sexualrnbehavior and assess if there is a significant difference among adolescents from differentrnparenting styles in their risky sexual behavior among adolescents. The study used arnlottery method to select two secondary and preparatory schools found in Addis Ababarnand using simple random probability sampling technique a total of 424 adolescentrnstudents were selected for the study. 106 students from each class and equal number ofrn212 male and female students were selected to represent the total population as arnsample. Response of 23 samples was found incomplete hence not included in the finalrnanalysis of the study. Quantitative data have been collected using structured selfrnreporting questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed using SPSS version 20 andrnpresented in descriptive statistics independent t-test for sex difference between malernand female adolescents in their risky sexual behavior. One way ANOVA was employedrnto examine the effects of grade level on adolescents’ risky sexual behavior andrndifference in risky sexual behavior among adolescents from different parenting stylesrnfollowed by Scheffe’s pair wise post hoc comparison. Accordingly finding revealed thatrn39.2% of respondents’ families practice authoritative parenting style followed byrnneglectful, Indulgent and Authoritarian 30.2%, 15.5% and 14.2% respectively.. Nornsignificant difference between male and female adolescent students from differentrnparenting style was observed towards risky sexual behavior on account to their genderrndifference. No statistical significant difference in the scores on adolescents risky sexualrnbehavior among adolescents in different grade level (F=2.212, p=0.05); which impliesrnadolescents’ participation in risky sexual behavior does not vary on account to theirrngrade level. Scheffe’s pair wise comparison showed that there is a statisticalrnsignificance among adolescents coming from different parenting styles. Those whornperceive their parents as indulgent participated more in risky sexual behavior than thosernwho perceive their parents as authoritative, authoritarian and neglectful. Similarlyrnadolescents who perceive their parents as neglectful participated more in risky sexualrnbehavior than those who perceive their parents as authoritative and authoritarian
