The objective of this study was to assess the acculturation experiences of the Ethiopian diasporarnwho live in Las Vegas. The researcher used availability sampling technique to select 118rnparticipants of the study. Both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods werernemployed to answer the basic research questions. The questionnaire included questions aboutrnparticipant’s demographic background, acculturation strategy scale, self-evaluated languagernproficiency scale, stress scale and coping scale. Moreover, interviews were held with somernEthiopian immigrants based on an interview guide aiming at exploring the acculturationrnexperiences of the Ethiopian diaspora in the city of Las Vegas. Descriptive statistics, one samplernt-test, independent t test, correlation and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were employed tornanalyse the quantified data. The qualitative data obtained from the semi-structuredinterviewrnwere analysed qualitatively by assembling the responses of informants. The major findings of thernstudy indicated that Ethiopian immigrants in Las Vegas are well integrated to the Americanrnculture, have high level of language proficiency, are not vulnerable to acculturative stress andrnuse positive coping mechanisms to deal with their stress and difficulties related with theirrnmigration experiences. Finally, the researcher recommended the Ethiopian immigrants in LasrnVegas and the Ethiopian embassy in United States to strengthen the Ethiopian community.rnKey words: Acculturation experience, Ethiopian diaspora, acculturation strategy preference,rnlanguage proficiency, acculturative stress, coping, migration
