The main purpose of this study was to examine the stresses and coping strategies of street children in Addis Ababa. For this study, data was collected from one hundred twenty-six street children who were part of Retrak’s rehabilitation program over a period of five months. The data pertinent to the study was gathered through a standardized questionnaire and analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The result of the study revealed that the stress level of street children as perceived by themselves is generally high. Children under the age of 14 were associated with a numerically bigger perceived stress level mean score than children above the age of 14. However, independent sample t-test revealed that the difference in perceived stress level between the two age groups is not statistically significant. From the reported different types of coping strategies used by street children, problem focused coping was the most widely used method. However, no significant relation was found between the variables of age, education, and time on the street and a particular preference of coping strategies used by the street children.
