Purpose:-The main purpose of this research was to measure the level of self-stigma among peoplernwith schizophrenia who are getting treatment in Amanuel mental specialized Hospital. Methods:rnThe study employed a cross-sectional study design using Amharic version Internalized Stigma ofrnMental Illness scale (ISMI) as a research instrument. Result:-The level of self-stigma amongrnpeople with schizophrenia who have follow up treatment with a total of 382 people (48.7% werernwithin the age of 18-35 years, 30.6%, in the age of 36-59 years, and 20.7%, above the age of 60) .rnAmong the total participants, (70.4 %,) were those who were able to write and read, joined orrncompleted primary/secondary school and college and university education. Of the entirernparticipants, 57.9% were Unemployed, 42.1%, were employed and retired. 60.2% of participantsrnearn 500 and less Ethiopian Birr pre month, 25.7% earns between 501-2000 Ethiopian Birr. Thernmean score of participants in the overall Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Inventory (ISMI)rnshowed that (M=2.35, SD=0.40).This shows that the level of self-stigma among people withrnschizophrenia who have follow up treatment was not high. It was also indicated that there is nornsignificant relationship between self-stigma gender, income level, age and the five subscalesrngovernment employed people are more exposed to internalized stigma Conclusion: In this studyrnthe level of self-stigma among people with schizophrenia was not high but; there are factorrnassociated with self-stigma like; employment and low income so it needs further researches onrnthis.
