The present study focused on identifying the perceived psychosocial parental characteristics ofrnjuvenile delinquents in Addis Ababa Remand Home. The subjects for this study were 124rnjuvenile delinquents, (105 male and 19 female) between 9 of 15 years of age who werernundergoing rehabilitation in the Remand Home. Purposive sampling techniques were used tornselect the research site and the participants. Parenting Style Scale (PSS) was used to measure,rnparenting styles and family structures respectively. Data were analyzed by using both descriptivernand inferential statistical methods and qualitative method for focus group discussion. One wayrnANOVA was used to identify mean differences among the variables. Pearson Product Momentrncorrelation analyses were employed to see the association between the independent andrndependent variables The result revealed that there were a statically significant difference inrnshowing delinquent behavior among juveniles regarding respondent’s mothers, fathers educationrnlevel and family structure . There was also a statistically significant mean difference in thernoverall committed crime among juvenile delinquents from different father occupationrnbackgrounds. However there was no statistically significant mean difference in the overallrncommitted crime among juvenile delinquents from different mother occupation backgrounds.rnThere is not a statically significant relation among parenting style and family structure .Thernfocus group discussion found that juvenile delinquents live with non-intact families, their parentsrnlow educational status, they employed privately. And Authoritative parenting style had thatrnjuvenile delinquency brought up and parents with a large family size are exposing factors forrnchildren in conflict with the law. Therefore concerned bodies should give more attention andrndesign a program and implement to support families on parenting styles and preventing methodsrnfrom delinquent behavior.
