The challenges of older people are any acts which affect physical, emotional, economical, social,rnhealth well being, political and other related aspects of them adversely. The gaps identified byrnthe researcher to fulfill in this study are that most of the studies undertaken so far employedrnquantitative and mixed study approach. In addition, the issue needs ongoing investigation sincernit is still critical. Further, although the issue needs appropriate investigation and relevant urgentrnresponse, there is no any research on the issue of older people in study area. The researcherrnemployed qualitative methods of research as well as descriptive types of phenomenology as arnframework in the entire study. The study was cross-sectional since the given time is short and itsrncost effectiveness. Through purposive and snowball sampling, the researcher met participants ofrnthe study. Observation and in-depth interview were employed as the tools of data collection.rnThematic data analysis was employed as the method of data analysis in the study process. Thernresult of this study indicated the prevalence of serious financial, political, social, psychological,rnhealth well-being and gender based challenges of older people. In addition, the way older peoplernviewed the term “challenge of older people†and various coping mechanisms of older people arernidentified. Further, the lack of government and non-government response for this critical issue isrnidentified. Generally, the result of the obtained data indicated the prevalence of seriousrnchallenges of older people in Nekemte. Thus, the issue needs urgent and further investigation,rnrecommendation as well as any one response
