Ethiopia is characterized by rapid population growth rate. This rapid increasernin population growth creates major social and economic problem. Only a smallrnproportion of women use modern contraceptive methods (MCM). The reasonsrnfor non use of MCM could be of social, economical and psychologicalrncharacteristics of women.rnThe overall objectives of this study was to investigate and examine factors thatrnaffect the use of MCM among married women in age group of 15-49 years livingrnwith husbands in Oejen Woreda. In order to assess the objective of the studyrncausal study design was used. Primary data was collected from sampled womenrnusing structured questionnaire. The total number of women selected andrninterviewed was 750. The sampling techniques employed for this study werernmainly stratified random sampling procedures.rnThe statistical tools used to analysis the data include univariate, bivariate andrnmultivariate analysis. Univariate is used to describe the social andrnpsychological characteristics of the respondents. Bivariate was used to assessrnthe relationship of the independent variables and dependent variable by usingrnchi-square test. A logit analysis was run to investigate factors affecting use ofrnMCM in the study area.rnThe study indicated that the proportion of women who have currently usedrnMCM were found to be 42 .7 percent while the majority of the women reported tornhave not used a method at the time of the survey. As reported by respondentsrnthe main reason for current non use of MC was the desire to have additionalrnchildren followed by fear of method's side effects. The findings of the studyrnshowed that the bivariate result of all tested variables is significant in differentrnlevel of significance. At multi-variete level, among the factor.s considered in thernspecification of the model, nine were found to significantly influence women'srndecisions to use MCM. Out of these, women's attitude, communication, andrnperception of side effects are most powerful determinant variables.rnMost women in this study were not using MCM, thus programs to increaserncontraceptive use should focus on improving the status of women throughrneducation, employment and health.
