The main purpose a/this research paper is to examine problems existing in the current expansionrna/postgraduate programs in AA U Moreover, to indicate possible intervention strategies /01' thernuniversity governing bodies and educational planners to alleviate the prevailing problems,rnregarding postgraduate programs. To this end, a descriptive survey method was employed. Thernstudy was conducted on purposely-selected twelve departments, which employs 16.6% a/the totalrn(72) departments. The data /01' the study were obtained from primmy and secondmy sources.rnUnder primmy sources: head 0/ graduate studies and research office, two associate deans 0/rnpostgraduate programs, and /our department heads were selected through plllposive samplingrntechniques. From these respondents data was gathered using structured interview. 1n addition,rn40 % (75) 0/ instructors in'Olved in graduate programs and 40 % (272) 0/ graduate studentsrnwere treated using questionnaires. Stratified random sampling technique was employed to selectrninstructors and graduate students. Under secondOlY data, documents that had in/ormation aboutrnapplicants and accepted students /01' the last fi re years were assessed. To analyze the data,rnpercentage, mean and chi-square statistical tools were used. Based on the analysis, postgraduaternprograms 0/ AA U are increased their intake capacity 0/ students than the past. Nevertheless, inrnvariolls departments there is shortage 0/ qualified instructors and inadequate classrooms, librmyrnand laboratory services. 1n light 0/ these findings, the following recommendations werernforwarded: MOE should expand postgraduate programs in other universities in order to sharernthe burden 0/ AA U The capacity 0/ the program should also be increased and strengthen in thernareas' sllch as academic staffs, classrooms, libraries, laboratOlY service e. t.c. Again, therndecision-making process should involve both instructors and students. Finally,rnfinancial constraints need to be resolved through the introduction 0/ cost sharingrnin the p rogram.
