The purpose of this study was to investigate the problems of secondary eduction provision in WestrnWollega Zone, Oromia Region and thereby to forward recommendations for the improvement of thernproblems that the study brings to light.rnThe areas of concern were the qualification of teachers, the provision of textbooks, the organization ofrnschool libraries, the provision of science education and also class size.rnOut of sixteen secondary schools operating in the zone, 7 of them were included in the study.rnNecessary data were gathered from zone and woreda supervisors, directors, teachers and students ofrnthe sample schools through a series of interview and a set of questionaire.rnSome of the major findings include:rn• About 21 percent of the secondary school teachers in the study area teach the subjectsrnthey were not qualified for;rn• Shortage of textbooks is acute at all stages;rn• The school libraries and science labratories do not provide satisfactiory services;rn• The number of students in a class is more than 81 in all the sample schools.rnRecommcndations for the mentioned points are:rnThe responsible MoE in collaboration with regional government should seek ways to train morernteachers and labaratory technicians. Furthermore, schools and WEO's sho Dld allocate a cetain amountrnof fund · for the purchase of reference books reg/Alarly every year. Finally,it is suggested thatrnOEB need to build a standrdized secondary school at each woreda.
