The main objective of this study was to investigate the role ofNGOs to primary educationrndevelopment projects in Central, Eastern and Southern zones of Tigray RegionalrnGovernment. To conduct this study, a descriptive survey method was employed.rnThe samples were taken from 7 woredas and 35 schools. The research study involved tworncategories of sample population: NGO and GOs employees. Questionnaire, interview,rndocuments, and observation were the main instruments used to collect the data. Datarnanalysis was made by using statistical tools such as percentage, chi-square and rank orderrncorrelation coefficient to identify whether there are differences and agreements in thernjudgment of the respondents regarding the various variables on the role ofNGOs.rnThe results obtained suggested that both the LNGOs and INGOs involved in providingrnassistance for di fferent development projects implemented in the region. Assistancernwas channeled through the local government, the NGOs and through handing overrnoperational projects to the respective beneficiaries.rnIt was found that there no formal relationship among the NGOs and never sharerninformation regarding their intervention activities. The results obtained generallyrnindicated that all the problems closely related to lack of coordination which the localrngovernment has not incorporated NGOs into its policies and structures.rnMonitoring and evaluation of educational projects was conducted on physical dimensionrnor of infrastructure projects .In addition, it was observed that there is a significantrndifference among the NGOs' projects performance in different target areas of the region.rnAll in al] the NGOs spent a total of 643582452.60 birr in different developmental projectsrnand in education. This contribution is very high compared to that of 1990s conditionrnwhere Gross Enrollment Rate was below 30. Finally, based on the findings andrnconclusions, recommendations were forwarded to address the problems observed.
