The main purpose of this study was to explore the current status of actionrnresearch undertaking among secondary schools teachers in North-Shoa Zone inrnOromia. The study was conducted in seven government secondary schoolsrnselected on the basis of purposeful sampling technique. The subjects of thernstudy were 140 teachers drawn from the sample schools proportionately usingrnstratified random sampling technique, as well as 14 schools principals and 14rnworedas education officers selected on purpose. Infonnation was solicited fromrnthe sample respondents through questionnaire, which was pilot-tested in onernsecondary school on 10 teachers and 2 principals. Based on the feedbackrnobtained from pilot test, some modifications were made on about ninernquestions. Interviews were also held with 14 woredas education officials.rnStatistical tools such as chi-square test and percentages were used for datarnanalysis. The findings of the study revealed that the knowledge and skills ofrnteachers in conducting action research were not sufficient. Teachers remainrnuninvolved in the process of conducting action research. Moreover, acuternshortage of resources (time, financial and material) was observed. Even thoughrnthe existence of collaborative school culture is encouraging, it has to berndeveloped more. On top of this, lack of action research skill, lack of time} lack ofrnschool management support, lack of cooperation among teachers} lack ofrnincentives were also identified as hindrances of action research, undertaking.rnTherefore, iCwas argued that with appropriate support from concerned bodiesrnand fulfilling necessary resources more teachers may become involved in actionrnresearch activities and thus enable wider dissemination of their insights intornchildren's learning.
