The main pUipose of this study was to assess the status of Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT)rnand posttest services provided by Mojo Municipality HIVIAIDS committee in collaboration withrnSave the Children USA. Moreover, an attempt was made to explore whether the counselors' skillsrndemonstrated and contents discussed in counseling sessions were in accordance with UNA/DS amirnMOH VCT protocol. The study also focused on exploring whether (he post test services provided tornthe PL WHAs were in line with the standards formulated by Ministry Of Health (MOH) and agreedrnby the donor (SC) and the implementer (Mojo Muncipality HIVIA/DS COIJ7Inittee) .rnA total of I 00 purposefully selected subjects participated in the study. Among this participal1ls 77, 3,rn20, were PL WHAs, counselors and service providers respectively. Questionnaires were preparedrnbased on VCT protocol and posttest services standards developed by UNA/DS and MOH Thernquestionnaires were administered to the selected PL WHAs and counselors. Interview and FocusrnGroup Discussions were also held with selected service providers, key informants and PLWHAs.rnAccording to the finding of this study, counseling skills demonstrated by the counselors and contentsrnof counseling discussed between the ciient and the counselor in the VCT center under investigationrnfound to be in accordance with standards of VCT protocol.rnTo the resulls of this study, financial support, psychosocial support and hOllie-based care werernprovided by the project. However, on going counseling, medical care and legal and ethical servicesrnwere not provided.rnThe financial support decreased by IO% than the two parties agreed to provide. This endangered thernsustainability of the project. The Humanitarian support provided on montMy bases seems led thernPL WHAs to developed dependency.rnThe psychosocial support provided in group helped PLWHAs to counter isolation and enobled themrnto developed self-confidence. According to the results of the study. home-based care provided raisedrnthe awareness of the community. Referral services. material distribution and providing support tornthe PLWHAs by training their OWn caregivers, were not given the necessary attention.rnFinally. recommendations were forwarded to minimize the problems and help to effectivel),rnimplement the project.
