Classroom Implementation Of Hiv Aids Education In Selected Second Cycle Primary Schools Of Snnprg The Case Of Hawassa City Adminstration And Sidama Zone
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the classroomrnimplementation of HIV/AIDS topics in selected primary schools ofrnSNNPRG specifically in Sidama Zone and Hawassa CityrnAdministration. To serve the purpose of the study Teachers, Schoolrndirectors and Examination papers were uses as a source of data.rnFrom the total second cycle schools which are available in thernstudy area, ten of them were selected randomly, and all thernteachers of Basic integrated science, Biology, Health and PhysicalrnEducation were taken as sample of the study, also all the schoolrndirectors were taken as a source of data for the study. To collectrndata, Questionnaire, interview, content analysis, and observationrncheck lists were used. The collected data were analyzed by usingrnMean, percentage, and Chi-square analysis techniques. From thernanalysis made, the following major findings were obtained:rnteachers didn't take training on HIV/AIDS topics, teachers wererninterested to teach the HIV/AIPS topics but they were notrncomfortable to teach the topics in the classrooms, teachers havernknowledge on many of the active teaching methods which arernappropriate to teach HIV/AIDS topics but their use of the methodsrnwas found to be low, there was lack of text books on Health andrnPhysical Education subject, teachers were not getting support fromrntheir school directors, and the HIV/AIDS topics were notrnsufficiently included in the ex amination of the subjects in whichrnHIV/AIDS topics were infused. Based on the findi ngs, the followingrnrecommendations are given: teacher education institutes shouldrngive emphasis for provision of training on HIV/AIDS topics and thernmethods of teaching the topics, text books on Health and PhysicalrnEducation should be prepared by the Regional Education Bureau,rnschool directors should get adequate and appropriate trainingrnbefore they are assigned for the position.
