The expecled lasks, beliefs and behaviours of Awuramaba male adolescents as reflectingrnmasculine construction was investigated. The study was done on male adolescents ofrnAwuramaba community. In order to get comprehensive information about the masculinerncharacteristics of these adolescents, data was gathered from various segments of thernAwuramba population: male adolescents themselves, and their parents, siblings, peersrnand the elderly people in the community. In general eight focus group discussions, 24rnindividual interviews and two key informant interviews were conducted. As indicated byrnprevious research results such as Co-nnell as cited in Belay (1999), although it variesrnfrom country to country, culture to culture, community to community and individual tornindividual, aggressive behavioural expressions, sho·wing sense of dominance, feelings ofrnindependence, female subordination" heterosexual prowess, assertiveness, etc. are thernindicators of masculine behaviour in male adolescents of various cultures andrncommunities. However, the present finding suggests that attributes of masculine identityrnconstruction among male adolescents of the Awuramba community are drawn from deeprnsense of human respect, loving work, supporting others, developing feelings ofrninterdependence" developing gender equality and egalitarian belief and pursuingrncommunol way of life.
