The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitude of teachers towards therncurrent performance management system and practices in selected samplernGovernment Technical Vocational Education and Training Institutions. Whilernincluding more institutions in the sample would have widened the focus of thernstudy, limited time and funding made such a wider study prohibitive. In order tornattain the objective of the study, descriptive method was employed. The datarncollected were organized, analyzed, tabulated and interpreted using simplernpercentage. As far as major findings of the study are concerned, significantrnmajority of the respondents stated their attitude that the appraisal system lacksrnto include critical requirements, indicators that establish learning objectivesrnconsistent with student needs and department expectations and appropriatenessrnof the performance measurement criteria to measure performance of trainers asrnobjectively as intended made the practices of teacher's appraisal in TVETrngovernment institutions exhibit weaknesses which need to be urgently addressedrnif teacher appraisal is to be used to improve the quality of teaching andrneducation.rnFinally, the last section of the study deals with recommendations that are soughtrnto practical in solving the problems identified in the study.
