The purposes of this study were to undersiand the level of sexual abuse of girls withrndisability and it consequences. To achieve these objectives, data were collected from fourrnsexually abused girls with disability, their respective parents and FGDs with teachersrnand related others. In-depth interviews were held with all the respondents using interviewrnguide. The participants were purposely selected and the data were analyzed qualitatively.rnAn effort was made to find out about the vulnerability factors, perpetrators, copingrnstrategies and effects of sexual abuse. The results revealed that girls with disabilities arernvictims of abuse because of their vulnerability. Their inability to hear, understand,rncommunicate, see etc. and challenges resulting from the society and from thernsurrounding environment, and absence of sexual education were major factors. Offendersrnwere found to be a relative, neighbor, unidentified stranger and a person who is knownrnby the victim took advantages of their vulnerability. Hence, it results in repeated andrnsevere sexual abuse causing never-ending problems of psychological, behavioral,rnphysical, educational, social and economical to health factors. As a result, parents andrnthe society at large are negatively affected.rnFinally, providing appropriate sex education in relation to age appropriate and type ofrndisability, training people in a variety of professions in communicating with andrnresponding to the special needs of victims with disabilities; creating a safe environmentrnthat allows victims to disclose, a zero tolerance campaigns designed to rise in shiftingrnawareness, focusing on research that is disability-specific sexual abuse cases,rnempowering measures, enhancing assertiveness and confidence of girls actually speakingrnup for themselves, organizing rehabilitation and counseling centers recognizing thernspecial needs of girls, amending inadequate laws and criminalize crimes involving girlsrnwith disability are among the factors that are recommended to prevent sexual abuse.
