A cross-sectional study was conducted on apparent ly health y slaughtered swine a l Addis Ababarnabattoir from October 2004 10 February 2005. The objectives of th e study were to estimate thernprevalence of Salmone/la in slaughter swine, to find out Salmonella serovars distribution. torndetennine the antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella isolates to selected ant imicrobial agentsrnand to invt!stigate the association between some potent ial ri sk factors and Salmonellarncontamination of carcasses, A to tal of 849 samples, consisting of cecal content (n =:; 278),rnmesenteric lymph nodes (n -= 278). carcass swab (n == 277) and scalding water (0 = 16) samplesrnwere collected. The samples were examined for the presence of Salmonella following standardrntechniques and procedu res recommended by the Intemational Organization for Standardizationrn(ISO).
