A simple, sensitive and selective electrochemical method for determination of catechol has beenrndeveloped at a glassy carbon electrode modified with single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT)rnand poly (3, 4 ethylendioxythiophene) (PEDOT) conducting polymer through the oxidation ofrncatechol. The oxidation potential of catechol on the SWCNTs/PEDOT/GC modified electrodernwas much lower and the oxidation currents were higher compared to the bare electrode. Underrnthe optimum conditions, the differential pulse voltammetric current of the sensor was linear inrnthe concentration range 6 – 100 μM with a detection limit of 0.18 μM. The detection limit isrncomparable or better than many electrochemical methods currently reported for catecholrndetermination, and the sensor is cheaper and easier for fabrication. The sensor was not onlyrnconvenient for quantifying catechol in the presence of common interferences but also capable ofrndetection in tea samples and tap water.rnKeywords: Electrochemistry, conducting polymer, electropolymerisation, single wall carbonrnnanotube, poly (3, 4-ethylenedioxthiophene), modified, electrode, catechol
